Yes Hoyt, this is for the monitor display. The time involved here is a
learning curve involving learning a new language, a new operating system and
finding the drivers for the particular equipment that you have. Not bad
considering that the time probably includes posting and waiting for an
actual answer.

No, the modem is used to communicate with the web. You know, that place
where you can down load free software to run your machine with. We do use
the paralell port to control steppers, we use additional boards to control
servos.
