Ian, thanks for the interest. I am quite sure that I could
solve my RT install problem by swapping out the scsi
for an ide drive. After all the time spent configuring my
other hardware, and the experience I gained, I want to
make the software work with the hardware, not the other
way around. Below is the Lilo file with RH 5.2,
boot=/dev/sda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.0.36-0.7
label=linux
root=/dev/sda5
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.0.36-0.7.img
read-only
After the RT script is run the file adds the following
image=/boot/vmlinuz-1
label=rtlinux
root=/dev/sda5
read-only
append="mem=31m"
and removes the initrd command from the file, and changes
the sda to hda. I need to create a file similar to the one for
standard linux, to be used with rt linux. I am currently
exploring Linuxconf and also the Kernel Configurator, which
has the scsi_host module listed. Any more idea's that would
shorten this install up? Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
My suggestion could still be valid as, in the case of my first attempt, I
could get linux up and running fine - 'XFree86' installed and AfterStep and
a couple of other utilities. Where it fell down was in setting up RTlinux
properly. Everything seemed to be OK but I just couldn't get EMC to run in
anything other than the simulator mode. Before I got to the stage of
changing the motherboard I was almost tearing my hair out (couldn't
actually
as there's hardly any left!). Each time I tried to recompile for RT I was
getting different error messages - just one or two and easy to miss. I
wouldn't have thought LILO was so difficult to configure - have you posted
the script you are using to the list - I may have missed it, and you need
to
tell us the set up of your hardware.
