The kernel is getting read off your disk, but it is having trouble
finding or reading the rest of the disk once it is loaded. My guess
would be that lilo did not get installed properly (it is supposed to
tell the kernel what disk the rest of linux should be loaded off of).
Did you leave yourself an option to boot the old kernel? If so, or if
you know how to go in from a rescue disk then you can probably fix it -
but using the rescue disk takes some knowledge of linux, in particular
a familiarity with the mount command.
