Chris:
By far the easiest is to install a second hard drive for linux/EMC. This
leaves the Windows partitions alone. I think that is one big problem,
repartitioning the Windows partition without messing up the Windows
installation. Maybe Partition Magic will do this? But if you just
re-installed Windows you probably don't have too much time invested in
installing additional software and configuration. You could
re-re-install Windows on a smaller partition allowing room for linux
partitions. (but I haven't used the BDI disk)
I have had trouble with the Master Boot Sector. On one disk I installed
linux and later tried to install Windows NT. Linux put something on the
MBS which NT didn't like as I could not then install NT on that hard
drive. I finally, on another hard drive, installed NT first on a smaller
partition. I then installed linux leaving the NT pratitions alone and
not writting to the MBS but making a boot disk. Finally I found a
procedure to dual boot NT and linux using the NT Boot Manager (as
opposed to lilo). The link below describes this procedure for NT.
http://itp-www.colorado.edu/itplab/ipv6/dualboot.html
There must be similar procedures for other Windows OSs.
So, I who has enough knowledge to be real dangerous :-), would suggest:
1. Install Windows on a small partiition (or move to small partition)
2. Install linux not writting to the MBS
3. Dual boot using the Windows boot manager.
I also left a small partition in 'fat' format so it could be accessed
from both NT and linux. That makes it a lot easier to move files back
and forth.
The next step is to tackle vmware so I can access Vector from linux.
Another great adventure. :-)
I hope this is of some use. Thanks.
