You have to know where to look. A lot of this stuff goes to the crusher
without the useful parts being extracted. I know a scrap yard here in
St. Louis that has a steady supply of computer gear and tape drives.
Sometimes they pick the motors, sometimes they don't. Bring a screwdriver
and harvest the goodies yourself. You don't know the new prices, or
you'd even agree that the prices at C&H Sales were good. They only
want $180 for a $550 motor! Surplus Center in Lincoln, NE and Herbach &
Rademan in NJ (www.herbach.com) are better places to look. Alltronics
in San Jose is a GREAT place to look for motors, but you have to go
there in person. There must be 5000 electonic surplus places in the
US, and they have a secret dealer network that trades overstocks
on good parts around.
