Steve, In my research in the past, I have analyzed voices for
jitter, which is cycle to cycle variation in cycle frequency. I
actually have written computer programs to do the analysis!
Currently I do the same work and also analyze electrical activity in
nerves and muscles. I never thought that that work work would ever
have an application to machining! I could actually do an analog to
digital conversion of the step pulse output and completely analyze
the waveform characteristics with that hardware and software. My
current lab does have an oscilloscope but it is part of the computer
hardware and not portable to my shop. Maybe there is a future in
motion board and drive analysis for me using physiologic research
equipment and techniques. I just thought, I do have a very high
sample rate digital recorder. Hmmmm...
