Re: EHP External Hardware Proposal

There appears to be two different proposals:

I believe that Hans wants to do a stepper controller that takes RS232 commands from a PC or MAC and generates step direction
pulses. These pulses then have to be feed to an external stepper driver amplifier.

I and several others are aiming at the high performance CNC applications with a small board that would remove the need to buy an
expensive PC I-O card, servo amplifiers and tachs.

If used in stepper mode, the board would act similarly to Hans' proposal except there would be no need to by external amps. If
amps are already available it could of course drive them directly.

Over the years I have seen several promotional development systems for DSP although I have not checked lately. Further, the
semiconductor manufacturers are promoting the DSP chips for motion control and we might luck out and get some software from them
as a starting point.
