Hi Shelby,
Yes, I've used and recommended pin 1 of the gameport before. Sounds
like you're wired correctly! I will mention again that I've seen
"printer" cables that don't have pin 1 connected!
Hamlin 7521D SSS will also work (3-32V input), Some I just used in the
published Driver/PS diagram.
