No, the serial port is not what you want, here. the game port is the 15-pin
connector on most desktops. Not too many laptops have them, though.
You connect the - input of the driver to the same parallel port pin
you previously had connected to the + input of the driver.

And, yes, most likely, using the parallel port to sink current instead of
sourcing it, it will provide enough current to drive the inputs of your
driver.
