Ive asked this before, some comments would be appreciated. What is a
decent CAD program for hobby or small shop use. Something not to
expensive, but capable and well written? What do most people use?
What should I stay away from?
[My favorite in this category is Rhino. It has a very nice, simple
interface, and an amazing array of features (which they're adding to all the
time). Plus there's a ton of plug-ins you can get for even more
functionality. But it depends on what you want to do; if you're primarily
doing mechanical design, or need solids modeling and parametrics, take a
look at Inovate from IronCAD. It is also fairly easy to learn, and
relatively inexpensive. If you want an all-in-one CAD-CAM program, you might
consider TurboCADCAM. It's the pro version of TurboCAD with a plugged-in CAM
module included. The CAM part won't deal with everything you can make on the
CAD side, but it will do 2.5d milling and supports CNC lathes as well. More
details on all these are on my site, under Modeling.]
