For just Cad/Cam G-code generation of run of the mill shoptasks Autocad is too fussy and slow. Steep learning curve and huge price. I use Bobcad 19.8 on a daily basis and it is ample for any jobshop. Bobcad version 17 is not layed out as well as 19.8 but basically performs most of the same processes. It can be had for $100 probably, with a little haggling. I know there are some reading this and disagree. Which I don't understand. I use it daily and it produces good code. It is a little "buggy" when you start pushing it's envelope in the 3D realm but for basic machining it's more than adequate. I did use R14 for Cad drawing and design which I quit using. Bobcad is much faster and easier for 2D Cad. The key to success with any software is training. Get the training CD's for Bobcad and sit thru a few hours of demo and you won't have any problems. I downloaded Vector and it seemed very similar to Bobcad. Although I did not get too in depth with Vector's operation. It seems like a good
software also. I've been successful with Bobcad and I'm going to stay with it.

With Autode$k, the licence can only be transfered as part of the purchase of
the assets of a company. EXM: you buy a company with a seat of AutoCAD, the
licence transfers to you and you are legal. EXM: a company near you goes
out of business and you buy AutoCAD at the company auction. Autode$k will
not transfer the licence to you..you need to buy a "NEW" copy at full price
to be legal.

Interisting thread, i was under the impression you could buy old
software, the licence would transfer and you would have a leagle copy.

I did this once for a pcb program 15 years ago and had no problem
with getting updates or tech support.
