Cast the vee rollers I just described instead.<G>
The advantage of the vee wheels on square over rollers on flat is
the wiping action due to the larger diameter(s) of the vee wheel in
contact with the bar. This keeps "the bumps" at bay. You also get
increased rigidity and can use fewer bearings. Square bar is cheap.
Material choices are numerous.
Down side is the need to end mount the bar. But at your light loads
and relatively small travels this shouldn't be a deal-breaker.
You could even use delrin vee wheels on aluminum square extruded
tube. That would be light and quiet.
So far I can't think of a faster, more capable, or easier to make
solution.
