Abby,
Not to take any of the warning aspects of your message away; it's
generally good advice IMO.
FWIW, there are several online resources telling how to chain PC
power supplies successfully in series and parallel. I've done it
myself.
The plating and anodising groups are one place these links can be
found. More than few have cobbled together large amperage, 5 volt
supplies; others have made 24-36 volt supplies.
Again, I'm NOT disagreeing with your warning; just pointing out that
in the right hands, using the right info, and accepting the
limitations, it CAN and has been done...
