If the transformer is a toiroidal type you should easily be able to take
a few windings of the secondary. First try and count how many are there
- then work out the ratio of the number you need to remove. Remove about
50% of these (to be safe) then check the voltage again, repeat.
Don't forget to use a file on the free end up the copper wire before you
solder it - it's coated with a nonconductive layer which needs to be
removed to expose the bare copper. I had to do this for my Sherline as
I'd not accounted for the power-rise when buying the transformer.
If your xformer is the gool-old-fashioned (with metal frame and laminate
layers) type, it may be a bit trickier (and more dangerous), however.
