OK - Power dropped to 160V at 8pm last night and they did not get it
back up till after midnight ( It's still only 215V this morning -
normally we see 230V at least )
So both Windows and Linux installs got screwed, and I'm tied up earning
some money for the next 48 hours, so I'll need to pick this up over the
weekend :(
The *MAIN* reason for taking all this time is so I can decide how to
move things forward on a commercial basis. I am planning to supply a CNC
machine complete with the computer configured and ready to go. The
TaigCNC mill from MicroProto will be one of the machines, along with a
larger X3 based machine and something smaller. I'd also like to include
a small lathe as well.
As the package will be supplied 'complete' discussions on customers
installing the OS are not relevant. What will be more important from a
commercial point of view is repair time on site. Currently EMC+Linux
will run on a lower power machine than Mach3+Windows, results in a cost
price 200GBP less and allows much easier repair. So I think that I have
to offer both options with a major price difference for the Windows
option and exclusions for virus based damage to the machine.
In any case I currently *HAVE* a problem supplying a system without the
computer and expecting the buyer to get things working themselves. The
DOS based systems running on W98SE are a much more practical proposition
today for customer self install on site :)
I am currently unable to indicate what is required for a windows machine
to ensure that Mach3 will run cleanly :( A new machine seems to be the
safest option - but then they don't have parallel ports now!
