What is the problem?
I've got a box and the disks sitting next to mine, but have not had time
to run them up yet, it is still running Mach3 or DOS, but I want to get
the EMC2 stuff running as well.

One thing you will need is to 'enable' the controller via pin 1 on the
parallel port before the step and direction will work.
