Each individual ought to do what suits them, within the limits of their
budget and machinery. A folding handwheel does no harm to anyone.
A jog button works, but has real limits to feel.
Manual pulse generators (CNC handwheels) are rather expensive, I'm not
aware of any low end CNC conversions that offer them, and most low end
programs won't accept the input.

Hand wheels are cheap, can be moderatly to very easy to install, and
offer great flexibility. Given that one takes care to not forget the
issues of manual machining with a machine fitted with ball screws....

Ultimately, what's really more important, how you move the cutter, or
ending up with a finished part?
Long as they don't go believing that handwheels are obsolete because
some folks think they are.
