Well most of my CNCs have a "manual move" function where I can just
input values for X,Y and/or Z. Any axis by it self or up to three at a
time. That means in "manual" mode, I can mill a slot at an angle on a
plane with out even using G code.
The company that farmed out the circlip job was smart. They had all
their machines making money and that is no time to shut down for a one
off job. On the other hand, for them, a manual machine would take up
needed floor space and set idle most of the time. Much more cost
effective to farm out.
