Totally different. A stepper has discreet positions (steps) and a torque
curve that falls off VERY fast with rising RPM. A servo is a normal type of
motor (there are AC, DC brushless, or the type the Gecko's use a DC brushed)
with an encoder. The motor by it's self will just spin and it is the
controller that forces it to stop and hold a position.

Yes on the motors. They must be brushed DC motors. CNC Pro puts out step and
direction signals and that is what all the current Gecko products work on
including the servos.

I know that Dan at Camtronics has used some of his very nice roughly NEMA 23
sized motors on a Mill/Drill. I think they are rated about 60 in/oz
continuous and 450 in/oz peak (can you correct my guesses Dan??) He gets
about $110 - $120 per motor depending upon the encoder. Not as cheap as
E-Bay, but you know what you are getting and know it will work. Also, they
are brand new. Anything in that size or bigger will likely work.

As far as drive hookup goes unless you buy some monster motors you will want
to do a 2:1 or 3:1 belt reduction.
