At the risk of sounding like a broken record. Ask your son to evaluate
Intellicad-2001. It comes in both a "free" and "charge" package. The
freebie does not have the VBA and rasterization modules, so any scripts you
write must be in AutoLISP.

Cadopia supplied Intellicad 2000 at no cost, but their "free" version of
Intellicad-2001 appears to be usage limited. The versions at the two above
web sites have no usage limitations.

Out of curiosity, in what areas does your son believe that VectorCAD is
weak?

| parts. He is trying to decide primarily between the professional
| version of Turbo-cadd and Autocadd. Of course the TurboCadd
| salesman says that Turbocadd is better and more popular than
| Autocadd. Anyone care to comment, and steer a young fellow along
| his career as a machinist/fabricator/cnc guy?
