Sure. Command line is by clicking on some icon along the bottom, that gives
you a terminal window.

An alternative on most XFree86 environments is ctrl/alt F3 through F6, which
give you 4 glass tty screens, without the windows. To get back to XF86, use
Ctrl/Alt/F7.
