If this is the BDI, there is a little floppy iocn on the desktop that does
all the work. You can drag and drop from multiple copies of the file
manager. Text based operation is listed below.
There is one small issue with the commands that Jon metioned. If
supermount or automount may interfere with the following text commands when
they are issued in a terminal window.
mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
This should connect the floppy itself into the file system. If it
complains about being already mounted (suprmount) issue this command.
umount /dev/fd0 or
umount /mnt/floppy
and then try the mount command again. You will need to have a good floppy
in the drive when you issue the mount command.
One other thing, if the terminal complains about not knowing the file
system type you can add a -t msdos to the middle of the mount command.
mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
File system type is normally handled without you having to worry about it
by a file /etc/fstab where acceptable file system types are set up as line
entries. It is man readable so you should see the format immediately.
Once mounted, you can use /mnt/floppy just as you would any other
directory. To copy a file from your home directory to floppy using a
terminal is
cp /home/batwings/myfile.c /mnt/floppy/ <enter> or jon's (.) if you are
int the floppy directory.
I've been meaning to say congrats on starting down the path to Linux. The
programming languages available free on the normal distro or by download
boggles the mind.
