Jan,
This might be interesting to you. I personally test each and every
drive that goes out the door. The drives go thru 2 test sequences;
low stress and extreme stress. Low stress is at 24VDC on a fine Sanyo-
Denki 2A/phase motor. The supply is current limited to 1.5A. No
matter what is wrong with a bad drive, this setup does not harm it.
It has never killed a drive out of the 40,000 that have passed thru
this part.
Once a drive passes the 24VDC, 2A test, a switch is thrown that
changes everything. Now the test drive is hit with a 100VDC power
supply while connected to a 7A PacSci NEMA 42 motor. Here one out of
50 surviving drives tested smokes. Sometimes bigtime. The 100VDC
supply (a Sorensen 120VDC, 25A 19" rack-mount lab supply) literally
kills the failures. The dead ones never ship.
