If you build an IP version, would you 100% test the protective
functions (throw a short across the output while it's connected
to the 100V supply)? Or would the protection circuit just be
tested during development and pilot runs? I mentioned UL before,
we are required to test the short circuit protection when we UL
test a pilot drive to get our UL rating, but are not required
to (and do not) short circuit test every drive we make. Short
circuit is stressfull, and we don't do it to a drive we intend to
ship. Life test drives, on the other hand, see 1000's of shorts
on their outputs.
