Just because the diode's conduction graph is linear in one voltage
region does not mean a diode is a "linear component". It is only
reasonable to call it a linear component if the conduction graph is
linear for all voltages, or at least, throughout the range of voltages
and currents encountered in the particular circuit in question.
This is certainly not the case when rectifying AC.

Take a look at a plot of diode current vs diode voltage. It is a
straight, slightly sloping line after breakdown. A straight line is
linear. There is no curve to the line. This line could be plotted with
a first order equation. That by definition makes it linear.
