Most those that preload by backing up two ball nuts would be using same size
balls, there is no need to use different size balls, this would just make
production expensive.

I stripped one of the ball screws on may machine, all balls miked to the
same size, though one of the ten separate track is one ball short.

I have also pulled five other precision dual nut ball screws apart now, and
they all had same size balls.

Before you ask, no I don't get a thing out of taking these apart, it seems
word got around that I was able to clean mine, and several people have
wanted a suspect dirty / failing screw on theirs cleaned. So far all have
had good balls, just needed a clean, and in the short term are working OK,
with low backlash.

Anybody that removes the balls is nuts they are placed in a size varying
order to allow the balls to move and the preload shouldnt be to where you
can't turn the nut. You can send the screw out and be reballed and checked
out for a few hundred dollars.
