I am a bit late chiming in here but I jut tried mine. If I grab hold of
the screw I can only just turn it. It is quite easy to turn the drive
pulley. This is with the motor still connected.

These little Denfords are cracking machines. They are really well built
and most have received next to no use. They are let down by the awkward
programming so I retrofitted mine with Mach3.

By the way, in the unlikely event that you do scrap your screw there is
a company just down the road from me who bought up all of Denford's old
stock. He has got an ebay shop with all sorts of useful motion stuff
<http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Marchant-Dice-Ltd>. I don't know if he has any
screws left though.
