I'm missing something. If you can't pull, push, or squeeze the cordage, how
do you get it to lay flat and straight so the optical mouse can "read" it?
It seems like you have a problem with the inherent instability of the
material, yet you are trying to use a different ruler, instead of a
consistent method of stabilizing the cordage, to get results. How will you
present the cordage to the mouse so you get any better consistency than a
roller or any other measuring device?
It seems that you must tell us the circumstances that absolutely define a
specific length of cordage, then we could suggest a way of measuring that
parameter. So far, we are being given only a part of the problem.
I have tremendously enjoyed the discussion so far, but it seems like it
isn't getting any closer to an answer for your problem.
