I have never had a package go lost in the US. Only when sent to other
countries.
In the US, each mail handler has to sign for every insured package. So,
when anything goes missing,
his signature is the last one on record. I assume foreign postal
services do the same.

I think the insured value is right on the insurance sticker, but I could
be wrong.
