Hi All:
Some brave and enterprising soul needs to try using ferroconrete for
machine building.
Remember all those ferrocement boats of the 1960's and 70's?
They were STRONG!!!
Ferrocement is just skinny rebar and chicken wire with ordinary Portland
cement. It makes a shell about 3/4" thick and can be ribbed ad lib.
It can be easily formed on a rough wooden mold in a home shop environment,
and can be painted with epoxy paints.
Exotic shapes are no problem, and inserts for mounting points can be easily
incorporated.
My dad was a naval architect, and was heavily into ferrocement when I was a
kid.
One of his customers ran his 42' ketch up on a reef and it sat there for a
week before they could get to it to haul it off.
The insides were a shambles from the tossing, but the hull had only paint
damage.
Any other boat would have been smashed to kindling.
