Someday I'm going to have to put some money where my mouth is and try concrete as a base. My version is to use concrete
(standard aggregate with Silicon dust filling) for the bulk and then mount the ways in filled epoxy for the easy of adjustment
(first time) and the vibration dampening.

Our standard DOT (bridge) mix will go 6-7 Ksi compressive but filling with the silicon dust from cutting wafers raised that to
about 10 Ksi.

Just an idea...not tested .... Yet!
