I suspect that your floppy drive is U/S or that you boot disk is corrupt or
that you have specifically set your boot options in the BIOS setup to
everything other than floppy.
First check your BIOS setup again. IF that seems OK and one of the boot
options is definitely 'floppy', then go to www.bootdisk.com and download
yourself a new boot floppy image of dos 6.22 - put it onto the floppy as
instructed and check that the files are on the disk - if you can see them
then the floppy drive is maybe alright. Now try booting again.
If you set up your hard drive for linux you won't be able to do much with it
until you re-partition it and to do that you will need to use a linux based
partitioning tool like fdisk or disk druid. Alternatively, you could
download MBRWORK or one of the other low level tools from bootdisk.com and
use that.
Having said that, linux isn't such a bad OS and the original version of EMC
is pretty stable and useful - as witnessed by Jon and Tim who have been
using it commercially for quite some time. You must bear in mind that much
of the discussion on this list is about the newer, development versions of
the program and relate to the bugs which still need ironing out of it. As to
the other programs available for linux, these are blossoming every day and
it is interesting to see just how many are now being ported to windoze as
they are al least as good if not better than the windoze alternatives.
Best wishes,
Ian

sister site to the CCED group, as many of the same members are there, for OT
subjects, that are not allowed on the CCED list.
