I still use a 30hp rotary to run my equipment. It has been running strong
every day for five years, problem free. I don't think rotaries are long
gone. If one needs to run more than two pieces of equipment at one time your
SOL with only one VFD. The VFD's have there place and have become an
important part of most hobbyist CNC shops with limited access to 3 phase
power.
But until they are capable of running several applications at once the
rotary converter will still be used for a long time to come.
