Hi,
Im my situation, I've got a 4hp spindle motor on my 4J SeriesII BP.
I found a 25hp VFD on Ebay for a bargain price, and it has been
working well for me on single phase 220vac. One huge benefit is the
reduce startup current needed as compared to spinning up a 7.5hp
idler then the 4hp spindle. I was popping a large breaker at the fuse
box periodically before the VFD. Now the current draw never seems to
go over 10 to 15amps tops ( avg 7.5 amps ).
As an added benefit, the VFD does the motor reversing required for
the other speed range on Varispeed Bridgeports.
Oh yeah, The shop is much quieter also now.
