the question is not really the price point, but the great advantages a VFD
has over a rotary in terms of size, ease of use, starting current, fine
control of spindle speed, no moving parts etc etc etc ... really rotaies have
had their day .. long gone. not really even a consideration theses days in my
opinion.

for the cost of the shipping on a rotary ( a hundred or 2) you can buy a VFD
for 2hp ... they are very cheap now .. 200 or 300 dollars will do it easy.
