Les, I have to disagree a bit here. I have never seen a series I that
used universal 30 tooling. They use the 20 series when fitted with a
kwick switch spindle. Also, the series I was readily available with a
V ram or ridgid ram. The units up to the Boss6 were stepper motor
driven. The ones from Boss8 and up were DC servo. Not sure what
happened to Boss7, but I never saw one.
My series I Boss6 has a much larger base than a manual series I. I'm
not sure if it's as large as a series II base, but it's definitely
larger than the base on a manual series I. It is also flat on the top
of the base where the knee jack mounts instead of recessed. It weighs
close to 3500 lbs and the knee is manual.
One of the series II cnc that I have seen had some type of air
bladder assist on the knee and it seemed quite large. I'm not sure if
the knee was cnc, but it had was powered. It head was 4 HP.
