Bridgeport called those "duplicating mills". Typical gang configuration.
I'm a little confused on the Series 1 or 2 issue. I've ran and repaired both over the years, seen them sitting side by side and the only difference was the Series2 has a 48" table instead of 42" and the motor is 3hp instead of 2 or 1-1/2 hp. All other parts, castings, etc are identical. There must be two different mills that are referred to as a "Series 2". Or alot of different variants of it. All the CNC's were either Boss or Interact's. Pre-Series machines we always referred to as "J-heads".

work you are likely to do, though. You may never plan to work on pieces
bigger than a 6" cube, so maybe the smaller is just a better fit to your
work. if you plan to make large panels, then maybe the larger is very much
in order. Also, the Series II has a much beefier spindle and more powerful
motor (except that some Series-II bases with multiple spindles use Series-I
heads. So, check if the head is a 2J or 3J.)
"retrofit-

height, or the
lifting capacity for the Series-II. I think that's the main reason the
Series-I is
more popular for the home shop. I wish *I* had the headroom for a
Series-II,
myself.
