I have been looking at what I would lose if I just converted the thing
to standard Step and Direction.

I have a treadmill speed controller, so that could run the spindle
with no problem.

the X/Y/Z would be a piece of cake as would the end switches.

Of course you lose the pendant, which is REALLY cool. looks like
0.01mm per step indentations on the thumbwheels. Very slick.

As for collets, It looks like I will either make my own (really good
chance of that.) or, just replace the whole spindle mechanism with a
unit that would accept a more common collet like an ER or DA or something.
