Hi, most treadmill motors are permanant magnet at least the ones i have
seen. looking at the speed control books i have here, universal motors have
two types, shunt wound and wound field. one runs on 1/2 voltage for the
field the other full voltage for the field. if the two sets of winding wires
a pair for field and a pair of wires for the armeture are brought to a speed
control, control should be easy. now if the motor contains electronic
controls inside the motor or tool that is a different problem. there are so
many new electronic controls some motors are brushless ac, some brushless dc
and the list goes on. cul brian f.
