Thanks for the URL. With the registration system, that doesn't sound bad,
although perhaps a bit laborious. At least with gluing up each layer at a
time there wouldn't be a registration problem. Although it might amount to
more time to build something, due to glue-setting time for each layer.
I'm still partial to extruding ABS, if a suitable extruder could be made for
the higher-temp ABS "wire". I do like the results of our SST, so I'm
inclined to try that.
I REALLY want to make metal parts, or the odd plastic (nylon, etc) part.
The ABS parts can be handled, but obviously aren't to the same finish as an
injection molded part. We wouldn't take a "prototyped" enclosure to a trade
show, but they are fine for showing sales and mocking up a product. I think
the enclosure has changed about 4 times for the controller project I'm
working on. That would have been expensive for "real" parts.
Not sure how I'd like the plaster parts! But if the hardware can be an old
inkjet printer...
I might be inclined to contribute the canned-cycle stepper you mentioned.
