Lee is offering some very practical advise here. The subject about
running at or above the maximum voltage comes up on this list about
every 6 months and the answer is always the same. If you run close to
the 80 V limit you run a great risk of blowing a drive when you
decelerate and or when the line voltage surges. In all reality there is
no need to push it to the limits of voltage. I am running Gecko G320
drives on Bridgett (Bridgeport Series II) using 90 v motors with a power
supply that is about 58 - 60 vdc. I get 120 ipm rapids on X and Y and 36
ipm on Z without using the air assist (so I am lifting 1100 lbs on Z).
Plenty of performance and not a single worry about blowing a drive.
