Kim,

Mariss is Gecko. He has been designing drives for his entire
professional career of 30(?)+ years and was the drive designer for other
companies before he started Gecko Drive.

Once you buy the drive you can run it at any voltage you want. When it
smokes I hope you will accept your lumps and not blame Gecko because you
did not want to observe the published specifications. Gecko has produced
and shipped 10 of thousands of these drives and if you will read some of
Mariss's past postings I think you will quickly figure out he also knows
what he is talking about when it comes to electronics.

This whole discussion remindes me of kids and cars. When I was young I
had an economy sports car that I put a lot of money into upgrading the
suspension, motor, stereo always thinking I was smarter than the
manufacturer and getting this great for such an economical cost. Of
course as I got further from stock the reliability suffered and the
maintanace became more of a burden. Now that I have become older and
wiser (some would say wise a**) I have learned the wisdom of buying
spending the money to just buy the performance level I want right off
the showroom floor. Amazingly I not only get performance I also get
durability, reliability, and others are able to fix it if needed.

My point is, you are trying to do the hot rod thing and ignore the
warning you are being given. Have at it and keep good records. We would
all like to avoid the potholes you are likely to hit and would rather
learn at your expense than mine. In your other post you are explaining
that this is needed because you are working on fast machines that need
300 ipm. Well if that is the case then buy the appropriate drives from
the vendors that sell them instead of trying to turn a Vega into a
Corvette. If you are using machines that offer that type of performance
the differnece in price should not be a stumbling block as you are well
past the hobby level that we support on this list. Your other
justification is that you can not find an appropriate transformer. I
frequently use a 48 vac 10 amp output transformer and get them for just
under $20 each. Gives you a nice reliable 65 - 68 VDC supply that will
run the Geckos at a great performance level all day long.

Bottom line is performance in cars, boats, planes, and machines costs
money. How fast can you afford to go? Blowing a few Geckos by trying to
push them past what is intended will quickly cost more than just buying
the large Rutex drives that are rated at 200V and 40 amps.
