You can't as such, it's a case of find the fault, correct it and
the error goes away.

Unfortunately I/O errors can be a nightmare to fix.

Turbo's (the other Dave) message has some pointers but
start out by checking the pin outs and Dip settings, if they
are correct then it's time to get the meter and scope out
so you can check continuity, pulse timings and levels.

Try to also check these within the plotter so that you know
the plugs are making good connections (been caught by this).

Make up a plug with the correct crossover connections for
the comms status. With this plugged into the plotter if you
still get the error then at least you know the fault is something
to do with the plotter.
