It sounds like you are loading M3 from the desktop using the mach3mill icon which would account for you having to redo the config file.
You can delete or rename the existing mach3mill.xml and then rename your seigx3.xml to mach3mill.xml and then when you load the desktop mach3 mill the new config will be used.

More newbie questions. We did a new install of MACH3 when we got the
machine, but the previous owner sent a config file (xml) that he thought
would allow us to not have to reconfig MACH3 to the mill. When we installed
M3, we were asked to name the mill config, which we did - seigx3. We later
renamed the seigx3.xml file to "old" and copied the file supplied by
previous owner into the c:\MACH3 (default) subdirectory and renamed it to
seigx3. Shouldn't this mean that MACH3 should be configured to the mill?
It appears that such isn't the case, in that the parallel port had to be
configured by hand (none of the pins were turned on or identified), and the
motor tuning number is set at 2000. So we had to set up the parallel port
pins and our XY travel on the DRO is way off. It appears the extents of
travel are 0 to 118ish in X and 0 to 40 in Y, instead of 0 to 7 inches in X
and 0 to 4 in Y. Is this adjusted in the motor tuning tab or elsewhere?
Initial set up was in mm - we'll probably use inches, should we change that
and recalibrate the motors? Thanks Chuck
