G540 and its G251 X "single" counterpart are both limited to 50V in,
max. That's enough to max out basically any NEMA23 style. More voltage
will not improve the drive at that point, in fact, you can get an
undesirable ripple because the PWM current rises too quickly. It's the
opposite edge of the problem- too little voltage and the current rises
too slowly to meet the target, too much voltage and the current rises so
quickly it's not possible to control within spec at the PWM freq used.
The Geckodrive manual contains guidelines on maximum voltage for a given
motor inductance. In general, 48V is just dandy for the modern
low-voltage NEMA23's.

The G201 series- which includes the G210X and G213V- can do 80V input,
and have 7A outputs. They're more suited for NEMA34 motors. Even if
you put it on a NEMA23, you might want to limit the voltage to 48v for
the same reason.
