Yes, you can use the 24V supply. A higher supply Voltage would probably give
you higher rapid speeds.
Geckodrive provide a XML file so you could use that, or copy the one you have
and modify the copy.
One tip to note is to initially set it up and get it working with the G540
Chrgepump switch in the off position. Makes things simpler. Then, if you want
to use it, remember to set the checkbox "Chargepump on in ESTOP" to on in the
General Config Tab.
If your stepper leads already have a connector on them, consider jut making a
set of short leads that convert from the plug you have to the DB9 needed for
the G540. I did this on my Taig mill.
As to the current set resistor, You need to find one that is close to the
current requirements of the motor. You need 1Kohm per amp. Or you could use
something like this that I sell. The small boards have an adjustable
potentiometer on them, it makes the adjustment simple. Also it is easier to
solder to the PCB rather than the DB9.
