RE: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Gecko G540

Was "Xylotex Pwr Sup replacement"

Well, I bit the bullet and G540 should arrive today, but this brings up MANY
questions.
1- I won't have the 48V supply for a while - can I use the 24V 6.5A
replacement until the 48 V supply arrives?
2- What reconfig am I going to have to do within MACH?
A - should I copy and rename the old Xylotex minimill file and then use most
of those settings for the Gecko? Or do I need to start totally anew with a
config file?
3 - under the title of "I don't know what I don't know" - what other
pitfalls/tasks do I need to cover/learn about in order to make this
transition (Xylotex to Gecko G540 AND new powersupply)?

The G-540 is a set of G-251s in a box. It is 4 axis. You won't regret
this decision, but you will want a 48V power supply.
The current steppers should be fine.
Do not connect or disconnect anything with power to your drivers,
especially that Xylotex. It takes a while for the voltage to dissipate,
make sure it's gone with a voltmeter.
Your new supply should have short protection. If so, it shouldn't be
damaged if the Xylotex is bad. When you apply power, flip the switch
quickly on and back off. If there is a problem, hopefully the short
duration will mitigate any damage.
