Hello gang--
I'm one of the 'silent lurkers' in the group. I've really enjoyed
reading all the questions people have been presenting, and opinions
offered. It's nice to see a fun group with a diverse set of
experience who don't mind sharing info.
Now that I'm nearly caught up reading the backlog of messages, (Whew!
what a job to read all that EMail!) I thought I'd introduce myself,
and ask a question at the same time.
My name is Marco, and I'm a newbie. I just started metalworking last
month on a friends little Unimat lathe and old Servo desktop vertical
mill. I enjoyed myself so much, that when I got home, I bought a
Sherline mill and lathe.
My current metalworking experience consists of making a circular
aluminum disk on a lathe, milling and lathing three pieces of brass,
and milling and lathing one piece of Delrin. With so little
experience, I have A LOT to learn. So thanks for all the info you've
shared in the past, and thanks some more for the stuff I'll get in the
future. It'll most likely be sometime in the distant future before
I'm able to contribute any metalworking tips to the group.
On the other hand, I've been designing/building/programming computers
for over half my life, mostly controlling hardware things, such as
robots, cow feeders, plasma cutters, and such. So I ought to be able
to contribute on the computers and electronics front.
I really enjoy real-time control systems, and for a long time, I've
wanted my OWN robot, so after I build up my skill set, I intend to
make two miniature robots: A Staubli RX-90 at 1/2 to 1/4 size, and an
H4-80, at about 1/10 size. (An H4-80 is about 4 meters tall!)
Now, on with the (trivial) question. Unfortunately, it's not a CAD,
CAM, EDM, or even a DRO question. However, I'm sure many people here
have experience in this: I'm converting my garage to a workshop, but
it's pretty darned cold in there. I want to get a little Propane or
Kerosene heater, but don't really know what's the better choice. If
anyone has any opinions on the matter, I'd appreciate hearing them.
Thanks...
