Hi Terry,

You may be right about the scale issue although I'm not convinced. Scale
doesn't usually stick easily to polythene pipe and the speed of flow through
the pipes is usually higher than in a larger bore system. Initial heat up is
anything but slower - my present system takes about 5 minutes to get ALL the
radiators in the house up to full temperature from cold, my experience with
other larger bore domestic systems is that the heat percolates slowly from
one radiator to the next over a much longer period (I must admit that my
experience in this field is a bit limited as my working life was as a
building services engineer in commercial and industrial premises, much
bigger systems!). I think it is the misconception of the efficiency of this
system which has held it back (little pipes can't be any use can they?),
but, in practice, the total flow through the system is the same as a
'conventional' system but usually done at a higher flow rate - you can do
this as you don't get the 'cavitation' effects of larger bore pipe.
