Good morning Tim;

I have talked to a few boat builders that use propane water heaters for
heating work areas. The outlet runs to a copper or cpvc line that runs the
perimeter of the shop. Prior to re-entering the heater it goes through a
hot water recirculation pump. A small reservoir (2-4 gal.) is placed above
the heater and tied into the return to maintain a full tank. Pressurization
is not necessary, though you may want to turn the temp down a bit.

We just purchased a cheap 40 gallon heater for this purpose but have not
installed it yet. The capacity is 34K BTU. The advantage of this system is
that you can put the heater in a separate enclosure outside to eliminate the
risk associated with the open flame. An additional benefit is that the HWH
is cheaper than a space heater. Tie a thermostat to the pump and you have
good temp control as well.
